Home Renovation Journey: From Remote Planning to Complete Transformation

Having moved into a house from across the country, sight-unseen, we had to have lots of work completed by picture sharing and text, and our new financial buddy…Zelle. When I arrived, the incredibly revolting arched mirrors with crown molding framing over the bed in the bedroom were all removed, as were the ceiling mirrors and the room was completely painted. The den/study with two doors on opposite doors was transformed into a cozy, single door in the hallway, room. The removal of the full-wall mirror over the fireplace was completed, and the wall was painted, but the bottom molding was missing. Additional work on molding was incomplete.

When we arrived there were some additional immediate needs. The pool had not been cared for in the past and the tiles were cracked and scaled. The heat pump was not working. The pool had to be drained, retiled and decking installed.

Since this was all expensive, we had hoped this was it.

After living here for nearly a year, we decided to replace several of the five mirrored closet doors in the bedroom. Aside from being to heavy to open and close, it was TOO much. The last two weeks we have had a workman here installing folding doors to replace two of the mirrors. All my clothes needed to be removed, shoes relocated, and accommodations for the puppy to leave the taped plastic alone.

I am soooo ready for this to be over. The doors are exactly what I wanted, and the workmanship is professional. However, a long time will be needed before another house project is underway. Lesson learned? Always get a detailed proposal that includes both time and delineated materials with itemized costs. Our expenses nearly doubled because we did not understand that materials were in addition to his labor.

Lessons learned…never too late.
