Life Is Strange

This will not be a political post. This is likely more of a scratch-my-head type of post. I grew up in the late 60s, multiple assassinations were part of those years, along with rampant unrest on campuses and in cities. During this time period, the Vietnam War created a forum for the expression of radical positions, along with the rise of racial tensions. In the last ten years, the pace of violence in the streets, on campuses, and targeting political figures has increased again. None of this makes any sense, except in the context of violent public rhetoric and threats. Shootings in schools, movie theatres, concerts, and festival violence have increased as well.

What happened to peace, love, and rock ‘n roll? Somehow, peace in the world and this country has waned. Expressions of love are now signs of weakness, and music has been shattered into many versions, some aggressive and violent. International peace has always been an impossibility, yet within this country, more peaceful times prevailed. The forces of resentment have taken over many groups, encouraged by the media and many politicians.

Is there anything we can do? Yes, reach out to a friend and that relative you lost touch with. Offer a hand to that stranger in the store struggling with a cart or bags. Let’s do what we can to make us feel better about ourselves and others.
