Living in a community that is populated with what we now call more mature residents, few have dogs. Some family members do bring their dogs, especially the younger ones, and there are a few Millenials hanging about with pets. My three children counseled against getting a dog, especially the young and small puppy I was interested in. The uniform objection related to fall injury. Next was, “Who is going to take care of it if you pass away?”
I have had pets my whole life, including dogs, cats, gerbils, mice, fish, and a monkey. Of course, when the kids left for college, I inherited two cats, a rabbit, and a Golden Retriever. The rabbit went to a pet store for resale, the Golden went to my son’s father, and I took care of the two cats who passed years after the kids had finished graduate school.
Determined, I went to the AKC site, found a breeder for Yorkies, called and set up a visit for her month old litter. Once there, I selected the tiniest little lovebug and named her Annie. I gave a deposit and went happily on my way. I spent weeks buying everything I could for my “baby Annie.” Several days before we were to pick her up, she died. I was heartbroken but undeterred .
The breeder called several days later and said she had located a Parti Yorkie. I had no idea what that was, so she sent a picture.

Who could turn down that face?
